Burgers
We don't get to travel much. I know, I know, when you own your own business, you can do whatever you want. But we don't. (eye roll)
When we do get the chance to travel, we always search out the 'best burger in *insert city here*'. In the Twin Cities, it was The Nook (http://www.crnook.com). The Juicy Lucy was unreal.
In the Milwaukee area, we favor Stack'd (http://stackedbar.com). Their selection of grass fed beef, and unique toppings, make every time you go there a 'last time I had this, so this time I am gonna have this' experience. The beer selection and service is stellar.
Locally, we have a few favorites. The Amber Inn has HUGE, greasy burgers, the size of your head. I hate bleu cheese, but the bleu cheese burger is AMAZING. Even for me. And did you know that they have been open since 1881. You read that right. That's 137 years.
The burgers at the new Northern Tap House (https://northerntaphouse.com) are off the hook. Try the Maple Butter Burger. You will not be disappointed. The staff is friendly and efficient, and their beer selection is to die for. And they have Sauce Appeal Fresno at their tables. Which makes them even more amazeballs.
Paula and I (have I introduced Paula? No? She is my right hand. An extension of myself. The person who has every email ever sent and received since the beginning of time...but that is for another blog) loved loved loved the burger at The French Press (http://thefrenchpresseauclaire.com). It is called the Ugly Burger. Maybe because the thought of never eating it again would make you ugly cry, or maybe because it's so good it's just ugly (kinda like Noah Syndergaard's 95mph slider is ugly, in a good way), or maybe they couldn't think of a better name. We don't know and we don't care. Just get there and put one in your mouth. You're welcome.
My point? We love burgers.
So, when my au pair (an au pair is similar to a nanny, but way better because they come from another country and you get to share their language, culture, customs, and food, I feel another blog post coming about this!) asked if we could check out Burger Night at Together Farms (www.togetherfarms.com/burgernight), we uttered a resounding "YES!". They have grass-fed beef, and a bunch of knock your socks off combos that are both thought provoking and drool worthy. All on their farm in Mondovi (I know, it's a drive, but what else have you got to do?). You see, Steph from Together Farms is my friend. We met years ago at the market in the parking lot of Festival Foods here in Eau Claire. We were market buddies and we became fast friends. And, because I suck as a friend, I have never been to Burger Night on her farm (incidentally, me sucking is another great blog post topic; I am on fire with ideas). So, now I am going. Something I should have done long ago.
The entire fam is headed out this Thursday for Burger Night. All the kids, the in-laws, Paula, and my good friend, Christina and her "neighbor" (she says he's just her neighbor, but we know better, don't we?), and our Columbian au pair, Fabi. I have stopped eating now so I can stuff my face, guilt-free.
You should check it out. Support local!
